Hired Contractors? Remember — 1099s Are Due January 31st.

🙋‍♂️If your business paid $600 or more to any contractor, freelancer, or non-employee worker in 2025, you may be required to issue a Form 1099-NEC, and the deadline to send them is January 31.

Here’s what business owners and solopreneurs should know:

1️⃣ Who needs a 1099-NEC?
You must generally issue a form if you paid:
• subcontractors
• freelancers
• gig workers
• independent professionals
And they were paid $600+ for work related to your business.

2️⃣ When can you skip issuing a 1099-NEC?
You usually do not need to issue a form if:
• the worker was paid via payroll/W-2
• the payments were made to a corporation (with certain exceptions)
• payments were made with a credit/debit card or online platform (1099-K rules may apply instead)

3️⃣ What information do you need?
Before issuing the form, make sure you have:
• W-9 on file
• full legal name or business name
• mailing address
• Social Security Number or EIN
• total amount paid in 2025

4️⃣ Why this matters
Accurate 1099 filings:
• support your business deduction documentation
• help you avoid IRS notices
• show professionalism to your contractors and partners

Bottom line:
If your business paid non-employee workers last year, make sure your 1099-NECs are prepared and sent by January 31.

It’s a key part of clean bookkeeping — and a smoother tax season.
